Evaluation the Healing Potential of Oleuropein on Second-Degree Burn Wounds in a Rat Model

Background: Skin burn is one of the most common complications throughout world. Olive derivatives have been used for treatment skin lesions in Iran. Oleuropein main constituents olive leaves. Objectives: The aim present study was to evaluate healing effects oleuropein cream on second-degree burns wounds a rat model. Methods: This experimental performed 72 male Wistar rats. Superficial were induced hairless back animals. Then, they randomly divided into six equal groups. burnt area first group covered twice day with normal saline, second eucerin, third 1% silver sulfadiazine and fourth-sixth groups, applied topically. To efficacy treatment, four rats each euthanized days 4, 9, 14, their processed wound contraction, glutathione (GSH) level, malondialdehyde (MDA) hydroxyproline (HP) content, inflammatory factors (transforming growth factor beta [TGF-β] interleukin 6 [IL-6]), histological examination. Results: In comparison untreated control rats, daily application 5% significantly increased HP GSH level over time. Moreover, it caused significant reduction MDA level. Histological examination confirmed results. Conclusions: indicated that has therapeutic value treating thus supports its traditional use.
